LISA RUBIN
LISA RUBIN
"When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe." - John Muir
Lisa Rubin is a Spanish/American artist based in Barcelona. Her artistic practice includes mixed media works on canvas, floor installations, and interventions in urban and rural settings. With her interventions, Lisa reveals the hidden spirits that lurk in cities streets, and in the woods or countryside, blurring the divisions of land and urban art; and reminding us that the earth lies just under the concrete.
Lisa works largely with recycled material and found objects and images - restoring meaning to discarded things - giving them back some soul. Cycles of life, death and rebirth, mythology, and the human psyche are all subjects that come into play in her intricate multilayered compositions. Lisa's work is driven by many of the big unanswered questions - such as, the mystery of consciousness, the mind-body connection, or the origins of life. The key to Lisa’s work can often be found in small poetic details; she likes to say that ‘goddess is in the details.’
